Abstract

Biology is a branch of science that applications can solve problems and look for relevant information and can be proved the fact. The information obtained by each individual according to their knowledge and experience. This can lead to misconceptions when the formation of concepts do not match the theory. Misconceptions can be caused by difficult and complex material, one of which is the concept of photosynthesis topic. The way to overcome this problem is developed an instrument of diagnostic test two tier multiple choice equipped with Certainty of Response Index (CRI). This study aims to detect students' misconceptions on photosynthetic topic in terms of validity, reliability, difficulty level, and distinguishing power problem using Adobe Flash Pro CS5.5 programme. This type of research is a Research and Development (R & D) research referring to the ADDIE model. The products were tested in limited to the students of tweft science class in Senior High School One in Jambi City by using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used are questionnaires and questions. Data type in this research is quantitative and qualitative data. The product feasibility assessment is done through material validation with the final percentage acquisition of 97.5% and media validation with the final percentage gain of 96.25% so that the validation criteria is stated very well. The result of the product test to the teacher obtained the percentage of 83.75% and to the students get 89.25%. The results showed that the two tier multiple choice diagnostic test obtained very high, high, medium, and low validity, high reliability, easy and moderate difficulty level, and excellent differentiation, good and enough. Misconceptions occur on some 13 indicators with an average percentage of 21.11%. Thus a two tier multiple choice diagnostic test equipped with Certainty of Response Index (CRI) is suitable for detecting student misconceptions on photosynthesis topic. Suggestion for this research can be applied repeatedly and large scale in learning. Key words : diagnostic test, two tier multiple choice, Certainty of Response Index, photosynthesis
