Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Universitas Jambi in Academic year 2021/2022. First Supervisor : Hadiyanto, S.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D., and second Supervisor : Urip sulistiyo, S.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D. Keywords : Speaking, Online Learning, Obstacle, Implementation, Course Design, Learning approach, Evaluation The research about online learning has grown significantly in the last few decades. However, not many researchers have researching online learning in universities. Apart from that, there is no research that researching what lecturers and students actually do in distance learning. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to describe the implementation of speaking for general purpose courses in online learning at the University of Jambi by highlighting two aspects: Implementation of speaking for general purpose courses, and the obstacles of speaking for general purpose courses in online learning. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive research method. Data were collected by conducting interviews and analysis of relevant documents. The instrument used by the researcher is the interview protocol. The result of the research are : In implementation of speaking for general purpose course has three part. First is preparation, process and evaluation. In online learning preparation, the lecturer determining of the objectives, searching material, arrange the material and preparing online learning facilities. In teaching learning process, the lecturer check attendance first, provide material, learner activities, provide learning reflection as a closing the lesson. The evaluation carried out when learning online is learner performance and is assessed based on the speaking aspect. The obstacles of online learning speaking course are, limitations of learning facilities, limitation delivering material, complicated preparation of facilities, limitation learners’ space, and speaking anxiety.
