Abstract

THE GROWTH RESPONSE OF CUTTINGS KAYU PACAT (Harpullia arborea (Blanco) Radlk.) Kayu pacat (H. arborea) is wood that has a texture like teak and patterned yellow and black composition of the artistic and beautiful. The presence of kayu pacat increasingly rare because it continues to be hunted by many people. It is necessary to do the effort of preservation of kayu pacat, one way that can be done is to cultivate cuttings with the provision of Root-Up and appropriate planting media. The purpose of this research is to know the response of various Root-Up concentration, planting medium, Root-Up interaction and planting medium and know Root-Up concentration and planting media is best for growth of cuttings of wood of pacat. This research uses Completely Randomized Design (RAL) factorial pattern, with two factors. The first factor is variation of planting medium consisted of 3 treatment levels, namely: soil + sand, soil + sand + organic compost waste, soil + sand + cow manure. The second factor was Root-Up concentration consisting of 4 treatment levels, namely: 0, 50, 75, and 100 ppm/plant. The number of treatment combinations was 12, each treatment was repeated 3 times, so there were 36 experimental units. Observation parameters include shoot number, shoot length, leaf number, leaf area, root number, root length and live cut percentage. Data can not be analyzed statistically with analysis of variance due to many plants that experience death, so that the research result is discussed descriptively. The results showed that the administration of various Root-Up concentrations and planting medium has not responded to the growth of cuttings. The response was characterized by the percentage of live cuttings up to week 11 after planting is 41.7% with 15 cuttings can live of 36 cuttings grown. Cuttings capable of bringing roots only 2 cuttings until the end of the research that is at concentration Root-Up 75 ppm with the number of roots 1 and concentration of 100 ppm with the number of roots 2 using soil and sand planting media. Based on the result of the research, it is concluded that there has been no response of growth of cuttings kayu pacat because of various Root-Up concentration and planting medium. Root-Up concentrations that can be used for growth of cuttings kayu pacat are concentration of 100 ppm with soil and sand planting medium, although the success rate is still very low.
