ABSTRACT Hafsari, Rina (2022). An Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Learning Speaking for General Purposes by Using Online Learning Platform. Thesis English Department. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Universitas Jambi in Academic Year 2021/2022. First supervisor: Dr. Dra. Rosinta Norawati, M.A, and second supervisor: Robi Soma, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: Analysis, Students’ Difficulties, Students’ Learning Strategies, Speaking for General Purposes The research aimed to describe most students' difficulties in learning Speaking for General Purposes class by using an online learning platform and students' strategies used to solve the difficulties in learning Speaking for General Purposes by using online learning at English Department in Universitas Jambi. The participants were English students who have taken the Speaking for General Purposes class in the 2020/2021 academic year. The total member of participants was 12 students from 3 classes (R-001, R-002, and R-003), there were 4 students from each class. This study used a qualitative design with the case study as an approach. The researcher used the interview to find out the data. The result of this research revealed two difficulties found that students faced in learning Speaking for General Purposes by using an online learning platform. There were practical difficulties and technical difficulties. The practical difficulty is the difficulty that comes from the person itself. Kind of the practical difficulty is nervous. The technical difficulty is the difficulty that comes from the outside. Internet connection was the most difficult that students faced. The strategies to solve the difficulties are by the change internet provider and going to someplace which has a good internet connection. This research implies that this research provides suggestions for English Education at Jambi University to overcome the difficulties faced by students in attending classes. The researcher recommends the implication of a hybrid learning system.
