Abstract
ABSTRACT Arceliani, Betry. 2018. The Effect Of Using Graphic Organizer Method On Students’ Ability In Writing Descriptive Text At Smp Negeri 17 Kota Jambi. A thesis of English Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University. First supervisor: Robi Soma S.Pd, M.Pd, Second Supervisor Masbirorotni, S.Pd, MSc, Ed. The purpose of the research is to investigate The Effect Of Using Graphic Organizer Method To Increase Students’ Ability In Writing Descriptive Text At SMP Negeri 17 Kota Jambi. The method of this research is quasi experimental method, non equivalent control group design. The data were gained by administering pre-test, treatments, and post-test. In this research, the student’s post-test of both groups were asked to write minimally three paragraph based on the topic given in descriptive text by using graphic organizer (experimental class), and traditional method (control class). The population of the study is the eight graders students of SMP N 17 Kota Jambi. Cluster sampling is selected as the sampling method in this research. Meanwhile, there are some steps in analyzing the data: (1) comparing mean score of the pre-test and post-test of both groups and (2) comparing the value of T-test.Based on the data analyzed, the data of post-test shows that the mean score of overall meetings which is caused by graphic organizer is 79.25 while by traditional method is 69.5. In addition, graphic organizer has given significance difference, it is 9.75 (based on t-test calculation). Above all, graphic organizer gives significant effect on students because some of reasons: graphic organizer can help the students to explore more the ideas, graphic organizer as a guid for well organized paragraph, and graphic organizer stimulates the students more interested in writing and creativity.
