Abstract
Reading skill is one of the skills that must be mastered by a student. One of the reading skills is reading aloud, where reading aloud is the ability of students to read aloud. Students are no exception to students with special needs, namely autism. Autism with all its complexities in thinking patterns and emotions is certainly an obstacle in mastering this aloud reading skill. This research was conducted at State Elementary School 131/IV Jambi City in the even semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. This research method is descriptive qualitative using data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observations and documents.The interview technique uses a structured interview type, namely the questions have been made in advance. The documents studied are about the use of Big Book.Meanwhile, data analysis was carried out by collecting data, reducing data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. In accordance with the purpose of this study, namely how the use of Big Books in developing autistic students' reading aloud skills at SDN.131/IV Jambi City, the results of this study indicate that the use of Big Books affects the development of autistic students' aloud reading skills through shared reading activities by focusing on vocabulary (punctuation and vocabulary). From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the use of Big Books affects the development of aloud reading skills of mild autistic students through shared reading activities focusing on vocabulary. It is worth trying out in the learning process because it is included in the category of attractive media with its appearance which is dominated by images and large and colorful text sizes. It is recommended that teachers use the Big Book media in appropriate learning materials.
