Abstract
DHYDO, M. H., (2022). Indonesian EFL Learners’ Reasons and Benefits of Joining Zoom English Café Online Speaking Club. A Thesis. English Education Study Program Language and Literature Department. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2021/2022. The first supervisor is Dr. Mukhlash Abrar, S.S., M.Hum. The second supervisor is Dr Reli Handayani, S.S., M.Pd. This research aimed to explore the Indonesian EFL learners’ reasons and benefits of joining Zoom English Café online speaking club. The site of this research was an online speaking club called Zoom English Café. the researcher utilized purposive sampling technique in selecting the participants. There were 8 Indonesian EFL learners as participants in this research who have been joining Zoom English Café. This research employed qualitative study with case study approach. The researcher used interview instrument as data collection technique. Thematic Analysis by Braun and Clarke (2006) was used to analyze the data obtained. The results of this research indicated that there were 5 reasons Indonesian EFL learners join Zoom English Café online speaking club. Those reasons were improving English-speaking skill; broadening friendship and insights; personality reason; killing the time; and accessible. The most mentioned reasons by the participants were to improve English-speaking skill, getting new friends to broaden friendship, and free access. This research also explored the benefits obtained by the Indonesian EFL learners by participating in Zoom English Café. There were 7 benefits felt by the participants, namely better speaking delivery, better pronunciation, and vocabulary improvement were part of English skills improvement; getting new friends and getting new insights were part of getting new friends and insights; and becoming more confident and better personality were part of personality improvement. The most felt benefits by the EFL learners are English skills improvement, becoming more confident, and getting new friends. Key words: EFL learners, Reasons, Benefits, Zoom English Café, Speaking
