Abstract

Dyah, Retno W 2022, Exploring English Department Students’ Difficulties in Writing Thesis at One of University in Jambi. A Thesis, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University. The first supervisor: Hidayati, S.Pd.,M.Pd.. The second supervisor: Bunga Ayu Wulandari, S.Pd., M.EIL., Ph.D. Academic writing refers to a style of expression that researchers use to define the intellectual boundaries of their disciplines and specific areas of expertise. Thesis is one of academic writing which has a long piece of writing completed by undergraduate students that discuss a particular topic or idea in logical way according to some experts’ scientific studies. However, there is such a phenomenon happened that several students feel difficult in completing their thesis. This research aimed to explore the students’ difficulties in writing thesis and the most difficult aspect that students faced. The research is set in English Department at one of University in Jambi with the participant from 2017 years of study. The design of this research using qualitative approach with descriptive method in order to describe the data analyzed. The data are collected using inteview supported with an interview protocol. Furthermore, the findings of this research emerged: 1) Difficulties related to linguistic features; 2) Difficulties related to psychological aspects; 3) Difficulties related to cognitive difficulty; 4) Students’ difficulties in constructing each chapter; and 5) The most difficult aspect in writing thesis.
