Abstract
ABSTRACT Mangosteen seedling has the characteristics of growing slowly because the root system is not development well and easily damaged due to unfavorable environment. Therefore, it is necessary to promote root development by using plant growth inhibitors “Cycocel”. A field experiment to evaluated the effect of cycocel concentration on seedlings of mangosteen was carried out at the Experimental Farm Faculty of Agriculture, Jambi University, from June 2010 to September 2010. The experiment was conducted in Ultisol growing media. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four replications. The treatments consisted of three concentrations of cycocel were : 0 mg per L ; 1500 mg per L ; and 3000 mg per L. The results showed that cycocel concentration 1500 mg per L has been able to inhibit mangosteen seedling shoot growth but promote seedling root.
