Abstract
DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ HANDOUT OF READING TEXT FOR EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP N 17 KOTA JAMBI Lilik Indrayani Jambi University February, 2018 E-mail: Lilikindrayani96@gmail.com Abstract This study is aimed to developing students' handout for eighth grade students. The study used a research and development (R&D) design. The researcher used observation guidance in analyzing the students’ needs as the earlier data and followed by questionnaire and document to collect more data and information in advance. The participants of this study were the students in eighth grades at SMP N 17 Jambi City. In designing the material, the researcher conducted some steps proposed by ADDIE model. They are analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. The data was qualitative data that analyzed by using thematic analysis. The result of analysis stage showed that the students need a supplementary material in the form of handout and the material focused on three text types of reading. The researcher ware design and develop the material based on the result of observation and analysis stage. Before the product is implemented to the users the researcher need to validate the product. In conclusion, the result of the research showed that the students’ handout is fulfill the students’ needs of eighth grade students at SMP N 17 Kota Jambi.
