Abstract
ABSTRACT Irianti, Mira. 2017. Students’ Strategies for Preparing English Debate. Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2016/2017. The first supervisor is Melati, S.Pd., M.CC. The second supervisor Dedy Kurniawan, SS, MA. The purposes of this qualitative study were to describing students’ strategies for preparing English debate. Data for this study were collected through a demographic background, and interview. The demographic data were analyzed descriptively. In particular, this research attempted to answer the questions: (1) what are the student’s strategies for preparing English debate. The interviews data were analyzed using thematic analysis. There were six students participating in the interview who have experience in English debate competition. And the researcher found three major themes: (1) Debate strategies used by students’ (2) Increasing critical thinking (3) Level of confidence. Key words: students’ strategies, debate
