Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of storage at 5C on motility, viability and abnormalitiy of simmental bovine semen. The design used was a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 6 replications. The treatments consisted of P0= fresh semen (control), P1= storage for 24 hours, P2= storage for 48 hours and P3= storage for 72 hours. The observed variables were viability, motility and abnormality. Data analysis used analysis of variance, with Duncan's further test. The results showed that storage at 5C decreased motility and viability (P<0.05), but had no significantly affect on abnormality (P>0.05). In concluison, that the length of semen storage at 5ºC than can maintain motility and viability of simmental bovine spermatozoa is 24 hours.
