Abstract
This research aimed to determine the gas profile of elephant grass incubated for 96 hours using cow feces inoculum and buffalo feces as a substitute for rumen fluid using the in vitro method. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (3 x 6) with 3 treatments and 6 replications, each treatment as follows P0 = rumen fluid (control) P1 = cow faeces + molasses (5%) P2 = buffalo faeces + molasses (5%).The data obtained from each observed parameter were analyzed using variance follwed with the Duncan Test.The results showed that the use of cow and buffalo feces inoculum as a substitute for rumen fluid in elephant grass was significantly different (P <0.05) on total gas production, gas production potential (b) and gas production rate (c).The conclusion of this research is that the use of buffalo faecal inoculum is able to subsitute the the rumen inoculum. This can be seen from the high total gas production and the rate of gas production in buffalo fecal inoculum.
