Abstract

Indah, Febi Y 2022, Online Learning Experience for Speaking Courses in English Education Study Program. Thesis, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University. The first advisor: Dedy Kurniawan, S.S, M.A. Second Advisor: Tubagus Zam Zam Al Arif, S.Pd, M.Pd During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has determined that learning is done at home or known as online learning. One of the learning activities that have difficulty is in a speaking course in an educational institution. In this online learning, the teacher used several applications to support online learning, for example, WhatApp, Zoom, i-Lms, Youtube. However, online learning in speaking courses has advantages and disadvantages in terms of learning activities and how the student's problems are. This study aims to describe how online learning activities are in the speaking English course and how the advantages and disadvantages of online learning in English speaking courses are from the student's perspective, and also describe what problems occur. Learning takes place at the University of Jambi, the English language study program with the subject of fifth semester students who tell their experiences in the third semester. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative. Data were collected using interviews which were supported by an interview protocol. Then, the data analysis uses thematic analysis. From the results of data analysis, several themes emerged: 1) Video conference as the main application for online learning. 2) material distribution. 3) direct presentation in via video conference. 4) more comfortable. 5) problem with concentration. a. atmosphere b. interrupt learning activities. 6) limited time. 7) lack of interaction. 8) inadequate network. The implications of this research are discussed further in this thesis. Key words: Online learning, speaking English courses, application, advantages and disadvantages
