Abstract

The purpose of the research are to determine the preferred learning styles and the major factors influencing the use of certain learning style the third year students in academic year 2021/2022 at English Study Program, FKIP Universitas Jambi. This research was conducted at English study program FKIP, Universitas Jambi for 6th semester students in May 2022. The research data was obtained by distributing questionnaires to students (as the main data) and direct questionnaires to kinaesthetic learners (as supporting data). After the respondent has filled out the questionnaire, the data is analyzed quantitatively using the percentage formula and qualitatively in explain more about finding in quantitative research. The results showed that students in third year students at the English study program used all visual, auditory, read/write and kinaesthetic learning styles. Kinaesthetic learners are the learning style preferences by getting 57.8% or 63 students from 109 students are kinaesthetic learners. The main factors for applying the kinaesthetic learning style are emotional needs and social needs factors. This can be seen from the results of interview conducted by researcher that most or the main factors of kinaesthetic learners in applying their learning styles are emotional needs and social needs factors. From the results of this research, it is suggested that students have to adjust the way of learning with their learning style preferences. In addition, students must be more active in the learning process that is adapted to their learning style so that the learning process can run effectively and efficiently.
