Yulianti 2022. Thesis. Students’ perception toward self-confidence for speaking performance. (A Quantitative Descriptive research at Junior High School of Jambi City). Thesis English Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Universitas Jambi. Jambi University in academic year 2021/2022. The first supervisor : Reny Heryanti, S.S., M.Hum. the second supervisor : Robi Soma. S.Pd.. M.Pd. Keyword: perception, self-confidence, speaking performance. Self-confidence is an attitude that is characterized by a positive belief that you can take control of your life and of your plans. It is a belief in your abilities. Speaking is a type of communication in English learning and the success is measured in terms of the ability to carry out a conversation in the language. The aim of this research is to find out the students’ perception toward self-confidence for speaking performance. Descriptive quantitative was applied in conducting the research. Respondents in this study were 132 students. The data of this research was elicited by distributing questionnaires to the students. The study was analyzed by using SPSS and Microsoft Excel. The result showed that self-confidence can improve students in speaking and play importance rules in speaking performance.
