Abstract
This research is aimed to identify the obstacles faced by the English teachers at one of the senior high school in the remote area of East Tanjung Jabung dealing with online teaching during the pandemic of Corona Virus-19. This research uses a qualitative method and the data were obtained by interviewing two English teachers directly at the school on the same day. The result of this research proved that teachers found numerous obstacles regarding to this online learning, such as bad internet connection, the availability of internet plan, the lack of students understanding of operating technology, and less support from the parents to their children during learning at home. As a whole, it affected the performance of students, decreased students’ responses also activeness, and lower students’ interest in online teaching. Even worse, online learning also decreased the students’ attendance in their class. All of that resulted in the final scores of students where teachers need to do a lot of remedial because students did not achieve the completeness of several subjects learning. The pros and cons of online learning also impacted teachers’ perspective of online learning. It absolutely convinced that teachers are required to be more creative with the material that they want to present to the students. Based on the data findings in chapter 4 it can be said that the application of online learning in this school is still ineffective for students. The English teachers need to evaluate several things to deal with this online learning.
