ABSTRACT Fitri, S.D. 2018. The Implementation of Scientific Approach in Teaching English as a Foreign Language for Junior High School in Jambi, Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2017/2018. The First Supervisor is Dr. Fortunasari, S.S., M.A. The Second Supervisor is Drs. Makmur, M.Hum., M.A. Key words: implementation, scientific approach Scientific approach is an approach used in learning with emphasis on the use of scientific methods in teaching and learning activities. This research aims at: (1) describing the implementation of scientific approach in teaching English as a foreign language for junior high school in Jambi and (2) investigating the problems of implementing scientific approach in teaching English as a foreign language for junior high school in Jambi. Two English teachers and their classes are chosen as the sources of data for this research. Descriptive qualitative study is chosen as the research design and the data is collected from observation checklist and a clarifying interview. The result shows that both of the English teachers are not optimal in implementing the scientific approach. Asking and comminicating are the stages that completely implemented meanwhile observing, experimenting and associating stages still need improvement in implementing them.
