Abstract

This research aims to identify the ways of impoliteness realized in social interaction in the Cruella film 2021. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The data source of the research is the transcript of the Cruella film. The main protagonist (Cruella) and main antagonist (Baroness) of the film were selected as the research subjects. The research data is the utterances of the actor(s) that contained an impoliteness. The data in this film was analyzed using Culpeper’s impoliteness theory. The research results showed that the film uses five strategies of impoliteness with negative impoliteness as the most dominant strategy. Furthermore, the results showed the actors used three functions of impoliteness with coercive function as the dominant function. This research also discloses the interrelation between impoliteness with characteristics of the characters, theme of the film, and social hierarchy of the characters.
