Abstract

Orang Rimba is one of the ethnic groups living in and outside of Bukit Duabelas National Park Jambi Province. To support living in a group nomadically, orang rimba utilized many wildlife species and hold diverse utilization patterns. Study on etnozoology was conducted to get information on wildlife utilization especially on what species, what for, how to process and what is the value behind. Research was carried out in September-October 2013. Data were collected by open and structured interview to Orang Rimba’s groups in Makekal Tengah, Makekal Hilir, Air Hitam, and Terap. The results showed that there were 29 wildlife species used by Orang Rimba for animal protein resource (consumption) (48.28%), local medicine (20.69%)), protected by custom (24.14%), and for sale (6.90%). Meat is the main part used by Orang Rimba (62%). According to customary law of Orang Rimba, wildlife hunting is permitted in the forest except inside core forest which is the core zone of Bukit Duabelas National Park and prohibited to hunt indigenous protected wildlife.
