Abstract

The emergence of Covid-19 outbreak at the end of 2019 and began to spread through the world in early. One of the impact of this outbreak is education sector transformation education from onsite learning to online learning from home. This transformation make students have new habitual after this phenomenon. This study is aimed to describe a phenomenon from one of grade 8th from Junior High School 7 Jambi City that be more active participating in speaking activity during online learning compared to onsite learning and to describe factor affecting this student’s WTC during online learning. This research conducted qualitative approach with the design of this research by using case study to gain in-depth data and detailed insight into the topic. This research held in Junior High School 7 Jambi City and the participant is one of grade 8th students and participant’s English. The main source of data was an in-depth interview from main participant and interview from supporting participants and analyzed by using thematic analysis. The findings showed that several themes from the interviews have influencing student to be more active in speaking activity during online learning and affect student WTC in speaking activities during online learning. In addition, there are several discussion related in relation with research questions situational factors support to student’s personality in preferring learning mode, the domination of internal factor in influencing students’ WTC, and the effect of student’s personality in WTC. The discussion and implications of this study are discussed deeply in the thesis, and the conclusion and suggestions are described in depth in the thesis.
