Abstract
Test is an important and integral part of learning. Test is a part of assessment. The assessment is needed to measure whether a learning goal has been achieved. According to Brown, “Assessment is an ongoing process of collecting information about a given language test task to the features of a target language task” (Brown, 2010, p. 346). With the advance of technology, nowadays, in many institutions the test has been transformed into online testing. However, students’ perceptions about the use of online test are not even been studied adequately. The purposes of this research are 1) to describe the students’ general views of the use of online test in Moodle for English subject at SMPN 7 Kota Jambi, 2) to describe the advantages and disadvantages of the use of online test in Moodle for English subject as perceived by the students at SMPN 7 Kota Jambi, and 3) to describe the challenges of the use of online test in Moodle for English subject faced by the students at SMPN 7 Kota Jambi. This research was conducted by using a qualitative method with the interview as the main source of the research. This research was conducted at SMPN 7 Kota Jambi, one of the schools in Jambi that implement an online test to conduct the summative test. The interviews were conducted with eight students selected to represent the students at SMPN 7 Kota Jambi. The interviews were conducted in depth with each of the participants. The data of this research were analyzed using thematic analysis. Three themes emerge from the analysis, they are 1) Students view of online test as practical, 2) The availability of tools can be a factor for students in comforting the English subject online tests, 3) High technology skill is the factors of confidence in conducting English subject online test, and 4) English skill is the factor of confidence in conducting English subject online test. The discussion and implications of this study are discussed deeply in the thesis, and the conclusions and suggestions are described in depth in the thesis.
