Abstract

This research is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach using a survey method. This research seeks to analyze and explain the perceptions of English teachers who teach Junior High School students toward the inclusion of local cultural content and what kind of the Jambinese culture that has been included in English classes. Those are 40 teachers as the participants. The data in this research are collected by an open-ended and close-ended questionnaire. Based on the findings, teachers has positive perceptions toward the inclusion of local cultural content in English classes. 92% of respondents believed that there is a close connection between language and culture. Then, 72% of respondents believed that the local culture can make easier for students to understand the lectures, enhanced learning, made the class feel positive and entertained, and also aids in student learning. In addition, 80% of the respondents also had positive perception about the English and other local Indonesian cultures are less significant than Jambinese culture, improves students’ attitude toward English, made students easier to understand the materials. moreover, it was found that 40% of respondents claimed that Jambinese tourist attractions and 31% of them claimed that Jambinese food and beverages are the most materials they integrated in their classes.
