Abstract

Dragon's tail leaf (Rhaphidophora pinnata (L.f) Schott) is one of the traditional medicinal plants used by the community to treat various diseases such as coughs, accelerate wound healing, as anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, anticholesterol, anthelmintic and from existing research, dragon tail leaves can treat cancer and tumors. Teratogenic test is a test designed to evaluate the specific effects of a compound on the fetus during organogenesis and the presence of external influences that can cause teratogenic effects. Methods This research is a laboratory experimental, with a completely randomized design method (CRD) using 4 treatment groups. namely control (Na CMC) and three treatment groups with a dose of dragon tail leaf extract 250 mg/Kg BW (P1), 500 mg/Kg BW (P2), and 1000 mg/Kg BW (P3) The test animals used in this study as many as 6 pregnant female mice each group. The results obtained were analyzed using Duncan's One Way Anova test. The results showed that the ethanol extract of dragon's tail leaves did not cause fetal death, but caused a decrease in length and weight in the fetus, abnormalities such as hemorrhage and credence. However, in the ossification process, no abnormalities were found. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the ethanolic extract of the dragon's tail leaf has a teratogenic effect that can cause birth defects in mice.
