Abstract
One of the functions of peatlands is as a hydrological function and plays an important role in the biosphere system as a carbon source controlling CO2 circulation and has a major influence on the balance of carbon in the earth's atmosphere. This study aims to predict the magnitude of subsurface carbon stocks in peatlands in Catur Rahayu Village, Dendang District, East Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi Province. The research was carried out using a survey method with a map scale of 1: 25.000. Determination of observation points is determined in a grid that is made perpendicular to the drainage channel. The grid is made with a distance of 500 m x 250 m, so that each observation point represents 12,5 ha. The number of observation points is 86 points. The parameters observed as the main data include field measurements, namely land area (base map), peat thickness (drilling), peat maturity level (van post method), C-organic (loss on ignition method), and volume weight (ring sample method). Calculation of carbon stocks is carried out at the depth of each layer of peat maturity level with calculations based on spatial modeling (GIS). Determining the maturity level of peat can be done in the field using the Von Post method. The determination of the BV and C-organic values of the soil is the average yield value of each SLH which represents each level of maturity of the peat. The results of research on measuring carbon stocks in the soil in this study are related to using a combination of direct measurements in the field, laboratory results and the use of calculations based on spatial modeling (GIS) (Geographic information system). The results of calculating the estimated carbon stock in the community land research area in Catur Rahayu Village, the total carbon stock stored in a peat area of ±975,5 ha is 1.514.495,57 tons or the equivalent of 1.552,53 tons ha-1.
