Abstract

Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is a type of horticultural plant that is popular with the public because it tastes sweet and has several health benefits because it contains various nutrients needed by the body. Eggplant productivity in Jambi Province has not yet reached its yield potential. One of the factors causing the low productivity of eggplant plants is the soil used in the planting process does not have the nutrients needed by plants. One of the efforts to improve is by means of fertilization. Fertilizers are divided into two, namely organic and inorganic fertilizers which have their respective advantages and disadvantages so that a combination is needed to obtain efficiency figures for fertilizer use. The organic fertilizer used is liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) which has the advantage of improving soil conditions. The basic material used for LOF is vegetable waste which has a negative impact if left unattended. This study aims to determine the effect of the application and dosage of liquid organic fertilizer from vegetable waste and NPK fertilizer on the growth and yield of eggplant. This research was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jambi. The study was conducted from July to November 2022. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with one treatment factor, namely a combination of liquid organic fertilizer from vegetable waste and NPK fertilizer with 5 treatment levels, namely p0 = 0 mL POC from vegetable residue + 30 grams of NPK. p1 = 50 mL POC of vegetable waste + 22.5 grams of NPK. p2 = 100 mL POC of vegetable waste + 15 grams of NPK. p3 = 150 mL POC of vegetable waste + 7.5 grams of NPK. p4 = 200 mL POC vegetable waste + no NPK fertilizer. The observed variables were plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, flowering age, crown diameter, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight per plant, average fruit weight, average fruit length, and average fruit diameter. The results showed that the combination of liquid organic fertilizer from vegetable waste and NPK fertilizer was able to increase the growth and yield of eggplant covering all observed variables, namely plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, flowering age, crown diameter, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight per plant, average fruit weight, average fruit length and average fruit diameter. The combination of 100 mL LOF of vegetable waste and 15 grams of NPK fertilizer gave the highest results on several observed variables, namely number of leaves, average fruit length and average fruit diameter.
