Abstract
This research aims to analyse students’ reading interest and to explore factors influence the students’ interest in reading. Respondents in this study were 76 students of VIII grade. The method of this research is descriptive quantitative. The instrument of this research is closed forms questionnaire and interview. The data of this research was elicited by distributing questionnaires respondents. Overall, the students' interest on reading were categorized low. The percentage of students’ effort in reading English text books in a very poor categories with 89,5%, students’ motivation in reading have a very poor categories with 90,8% and students’ assumption in reading in a very poor category with 82,9%. The factors caused the students’ reading interest are internal factors, such as habit and reading ability, and external factors such as environment and availability of reading materials. The implication of this research is the description and information about students’ interest which can be used as a consideration for teacher to build students’ interest in reading.
