In one of Jambi City State Junior High Schools, I took informants to class IX-B students. This study uses a qualitative method. The study takes cases that have been experienced by most students, where students carried out online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study analyzes students' perceptions of online learning that they have carried out using interview guidelines. The instrument of this research is the interview. Have conducted 10 questions in interviews about students' perceptions of learning English, which have been carried out online. Interview results show that students feel uncomfortable when learning English online because they find it difficult to understand the material. There are also those who say that the teacher has less explanation of the material. According to students' answers, online English learning is less effective because many students are passive during class and there is less interaction between the teacher and students. According to the study's findings, students' perceptions of online English learning in one state junior high school in Jambi City, were favorable to face-to-face English learning.
