Abstract

Students’ Strategies to Overcome Speaking Difficulties At Vocational High School 2 Tebo: Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Department, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Jambi, supervised by (I) Dr. Reli Handayani, S.S, M.Pd and (II) Indri Anastasia, S.S, M.A. Keywords: Student’s strategies, speaking difficulties, vocational high school. This research aimed to investigate students’ strategies in overcoming their speaking difficulties. The participants of this research are six students from Vocational high school 2 Tebo, moreover, the participant purposively chosen. The data of this study were gathered through observation and interview. Furthermore, the researcher carried out this study by using the descriptive qualitative method. The result showed that students face two speaking difficulties namely psychological and language. Moreover, they used three strategies to solve their difficulties. Psychological difficulties that found was nervous, fear of making mistake, lack of confident, and lack of motivation. While language difficulties that students face was lack of vocabulary, pronunciation and mother tongue use. Moreover, the strategies that students used to solve their difficulties were using dictionary, asking teacher and memorizing vocabulary.
