Abstract
Background: Pediculosis capitis is a disorder caused by head lice infection, pediculosis humanus capitis, on the human scalp. This parasite most commonly affects children and spreads rapidly in crowded environments such as orphanages and boarding schools. The purpose of this study was to determine the determinants associated with the incidence of Pediculosis capitis in Orphanages in Jelutung District, Jambi City in 2022. Methods: This type of research is quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The study population amounted to 131 children with a sample of 85 respondents. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test with a 95% confidence degree. Results: The results showed that residents of the Jambi City Jelutung District Orphanage (55.3%) experienced the incidence of Pediculosis capitis, (62.4%) had poor personal hygiene, (88.2%) had occupancy density that did not meet the requirements, and (56.5%) had room humidity that did not meet the requirements. There was an association between personal hygiene (p=0.000), occupancy density (p=0.038), and room humidity (p=0.009) with the incidence of Pediculosis capitis. Conclusion: It is recommended to all residents of the Jelutung District Orphanage to improve personal hygiene by not borrowing personal items (such as clothes, combs, towels) and also to the Jambi City Health Office to provide routine health counseling to residents of the orphanage, especially regarding Pediculosis capitis. Keywords: Pediculosis capitis, Personal hygiene, Occupancy density, Room humidity.
