Abstract

The objective of the research was to identify about the strategies used by Second Semester Students At English Study Program of Jambi University in learning English. The participants were examined through questionnaire adapted from Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL)version 7.0. Data were analysed in term of percentage and mean. The finding of this research reveals that the students apply five learning strategies when they learn English. The strategies are Memory strategies, Cognitive strategies, Metacognitive strategies, Affective strategies and Social strategies. The finding reveals that the most dominant strategy is Metacognitive (Mean = 3.20), meanwhile the least dominant one is Social strategy (Mean = 2.69) Key words: Strategy, SILL, Quantitative, Survey
