Abstract
This study aims to examine to study the estrous performance of PE goat as response to different estrous synchronization procedure. The experiment was carried out in small holder goat farmers in Singkut, District of Sarolangun, Jambi Province. A total of 48 nonpregnant PE goats were used and randomly divided into 5 treatments with a number of 10 heads each. The treatments given were T1 (two i.m. injections of 10 mg PGF2α at 11-day intervals, and 400 IU eCG in i.m. injections concurrently with a second PGF2α injection), T2 (two i.m. injections of 10 mg PGF2α at 11-day intervals), T3 (polyurethane sponge insertion containing 45 mg fluorogestone acetate (FGA) for 14 days), T4 (eCG-sponge combination, sponge insertion for 14 days and i.m. injection. 400 IU eCG at sponge extraction), T5 (standar ovsynch protocol). Observations of estrus were carried out 12 hours after the end of the treatment for 4 days, 2 times a day, in the morning at 06.00-07.00 and in the afternoon at 17.00-18.00.. Parameters measured during the study were estrus percentage and estrus intensity. Data were analyzed by means of variance using SPSS software version 14. Results indicate that the use sponge alone or with eCG to be equally efficient synchronizing estrus in goats, and better than PGF2α administration alone. use of eCG concurrent with second injection of prostaglandin F2α significantly increased estrus response. Insertion of sponge-eCG combination has earlier estrus. There is no difference among the treatment in estrus intensity. Keywords: PE goat, estrus synchronization, PGF2α, FGA , FTAI
