Abstract

Soil moisture information closely related to weather and climate, run-off potential and flood control, soil erosion and slope, water resource management, geotechnical and water quality for weather prediction, early warning of drought, irrigation scheduling, and harvest estimates. Information on soil moisture is required for management action in forest restoration ecosystem. Ecosystem restoration in lowland forest of Hutan Harapan PT. REKI (Restorasi Ekosistem) Indonesia is conducting revegetation over the area in order to improve and to maintain the forest functions. Soil moisture can be derived from Landsat imagery using dryness index. TVDI is a dryness index based on empirical parameter obtaining from surface temperature (LST) and NDVI. Plot surface temperature was defined as dry side on the top and wet side on the bottom. Green vegetation increased at the X axis (NDVI) was affecting the decreasing of maximum surface temperature. For dry condition negative relationship defined by upper side which means the upper limit of surface temperature for certain landcover.. The results showed that formula derived from Landsat 8 imagery was TVDI = LST-(28.1*NDVI+10.599)/(-36.3609 * NDVI +39.702). Keywords : Humidity index analysis, Landcover, Landsat 8, ecosystem restoration, TVDI
