Abstract

Mastery of Spatial Modeling skills requires sufficient understanding and practice. Students of the Forestry Study Program are required to master GIS technology to answer existing problems in the forestry sector. Learning innovation that can be used as a solution is to use Project based Learning. In Project-Based Learning (PjBL), students experience a process of inquiry in response to the Driving Question. It starts with a challenging problem so that students find information about the problem as a need arises, provides opportunities for continuous formative assessment throughout the process, and allows students to progress by presenting a variety of methods for thinking about the topic or module in the Spatial Modeling course. In PjBL students will gain understanding by working on projects in accordance with competence and CPL in the Spatial Modeling course. The proposed research aims to examine the application of the PjBL Model in the Spatial Modeling Course for Forestry Students in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The result showed so far that the students was very enthusiastics in doing their own project. PjBL learning innovation is an appropriate learning design in increasing students' understanding of Spatial Modeling courses. Learning with the PjBL method motivates students to continue to learn to master GIS concepts and perform spatial analysis using existing GIS software. The monitoring system by lecturers encourages students to improve their verbal communication skills through project presentations. From the results of the evaluation of the implementation of project-based courses, students show good attitudes and good competencies as well.
