Abstract
This study aims to determine the population of predatory insects in rice cultivation in Senaning Village and Lubuk Ruso, Batanghari Regency. This research was carried out in rice field of Senaning and Lubuk Ruso villages, Pemayung District, Batanghari Regency and the Pest Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jambi for 4 months from August to November 2022. In each rice field area, 10 sample plots with a size of 2 m x 2 m were made which were placed randomly. Data on predatory insects was collected 4 times, when the rice plants were 7 and 21 days (vegetative phase), and also when the rice plants were 54 and 70 days (generative phase) using the direct observation method, sweep net, yellow pan trap and pitfall trap. Predatory insect obtained from each data collection methods were identified and the number of each species was counted. The results showed that different cultivation technique in rice field like planting distance, plant varieties and the application of synthetic pesticides could affect predatory insect population on rice field in Senaning and Lubuk Ruso Villages. Close distance and a large number of tillers of a variety of rice allows for the creation of a suitable microclimate for the development of predatory insects, while the application of synthetic pesticides can reduce population of predatory insect.
