Abstract
Errors cannot be separated from writing skill because English is not their native language in Indonesian. So, when the students write a text or make a composition the errors still exist in their writing descriptive text.The objectives of this research are : (1) To find out the dominant errors tha appear in students descriptive writing based on surface strategy taxonomy and the percentages of each errors made by the students. (2). To find out sources of error that the students made in descriptive text. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative research. The result of this research shows that are (1) There are four types of errors; ommision, addition, misformation and misordering, and the highest and lowest frequency errors is Misformation 75 errors (33,78%) and misordering 6 errros (2,70%). (2) There are 2 sources of errors in this research: Interlingual transfer and Intralingual transfer, and the highest sources of errors is interlingual transfer at 64% and the lowest sources of errors is intralingual transfer at 36%.. In conclusion, the errors come from many factors. First is the students still confused in using the appropriate word or poor vocabularies. Second is because of their first language (indonesian logical thinking). Last is literal translation. The researcher perhaps this research can give contribution for the teachers in the future time like there in Suggestion. First is the teachers give clear explanation when she or he is explaining the lesson and pay attention to the students ignore the lesson. Second is the teachers use interesting technique with the intention of developing the students interest and motivation in writing espescially descriptive writing text. Next is the teachers uses many sources of English related to the lesson not only book but other sources. Last is the teachers must giving a good feedback to the students in order they know his mistakes and errors that they have made so the students do not made same errors again in the future
