Abstract
Abstract This study is centres round on the reading habits in the digital era of EFL learners in a public university in Jambi. There are two research question to be answers: 1) what do EFL learners read in digital era, 2) how do EFL learners read in digital era. The participants of this study are students first semester of English study program at Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at a public university in Jambi. This study is use mix-method. Then, in this study uses reading log and questionnaire as instruments. The study starts with distributing the reading log included of three categories: 1) the reading content, 2) reading frequency, 3) and reading purpose, those categories to know what the student read, how long they read and their purpose in reading. Then, the study is distributing questionnaire that consists of 43 items. The questionnaire is about reading strategies in the digital era, especially for online reading strategies and printed reading strategies. The findings of this study shows that most of the students read digitally, but they also read printed text or textbook. They uses both of digital tool and printed text or textbook as a reading media. In digital tool the students read online and offline such as online news, online stories, online journal article, digital e-book, etc. Then, in printed text or textbook the students read educational text and printed journal article. In conducting this study is to gain a broad overview of the reading habits of EFL learners, the researcher made suggestions that the learners should be aware to use of digital tool, printed text and textbook as media to read in this digital era to develop their reading habits and the students should know their reading strategies to solve their problem in in reading when they found the difficulties of text.
