Abstract

ABSTRACK Vocabulary is one of the most important language components that must be taught to students in the process of learning English as a foreign language. At school students who have a low vocabulary will find it difficult to understand the material so they are less interested in learning. Currently, there are many interactive learning media that can be used to make the teaching and learning process more interactive and enthusiastic, such as Wordwall. Wordwall is a game-based interactive learning media that makes the process of learning English interactive and fun. Based on this, the purpose of this study was to determine the significant differences between experimental and control classes in learning vocabulary mastery using Wordwall in grade VII SMPN 5 Tanjung Jabung Timur in the 2022/2023 school year. This study aimed to find out whether students who were taught using Wordwall could improve their vocabulary mastery compared to students who were not taught using Wordwall media in class VII SMPN 5 Tanjung Jabung Timur in the 2022/2023 academic year. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The population was taken from SMPN 5 Tanjung Jabung Timur class VII students. The population is 120 students. The sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique by looking at the seventh-grade students' English scores. The samples used in this study were 30 students in class VII A and 30 students in class VII D. To collect data, the researcher used an instrument test, namely the pre-test, and post-test. Furthermore, to analyze it, the researcher used the T-test formula to determine whether there were significant differences between students who learned to use Wordwall and those who did not use Wordwall. Based on data analysis and results of hypothesis calculations, it is known that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Based on the result that is collected after conducting this research, here are the results: (1) there are significant differences in the mastery of English vocabulary between classes that use Wordwall (experimental class) and classes that are thought without using Wordwall (control class). (2) Students' English vocabulary learning using Wordwall is more effective than without using Wordwall. Keywords: Wordwall media and vocabulary mastery
