Abstract

Abstract Fish disease is an obstacle in the culture of Dumbo catfish (Clarias sp) which can result in fish mortality. The necessity for information on how to prevent and treat fish diseases is urgently needed. This study aims to investigate the effect of aeration time on water quality, ectoparasites intensity, prevalence, dominance, survival and condition factors, then to correlate water quality with ectoparasites intensity. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments included aeration 0 hours/day, 6 hours/day, 12 hours/day, 18 hours/day and 24 hours/day. Data analysis used ANOVA at a certain significance level. If there is a significant difference from each treatment, proceed to the DUNCAN test. The correlation of water quality with the intensity of ectoparasites was tested. The results showed that the duration of aeration can increase the solubility of oxygen, the degree of acidity but decreases ammonia and nitrite. The correlation value of oxygen solubility on the intensity of ectoparasites is 0.828, the degree of acidity (pH) is 0.849, ammonia is -0.888, nitrite is -0.592. The prevalence value of P0 and P1 is 0%, P2 is 89%, P3 and P4 is 100%. The intensity of ectoparasites in Dumbo catfish (Clarias sp), at P0 was 2, P1 was 13, P2 was 75, while at P3 and P4 it was >100. The dominance of the infecting ectoparasites were Trichodina sp of 71.7-100% and Dactylogyrus sp of 0-28.4%. The survival rate of fish at P0 was the highest with a value of 89%, P1 was 84%, P2 was 71%, P3 and P4 levels were 0%. The condition factor value means that P0 and P1 have values ​​> 1, P2, P3 and P4 have condition factor values ​​< 1. It is concluded that the longer the aeration is given, the solubility of oxygen increases which results in an increase in the intensity and prevalence of ectoparasitic infections, the water pH becomes neutral and decreased ammonia and nitrite content. There is a moderate to very strong correlation between water quality and ectoparasite intensity. There is an increase in the prevalence of infection, the intensity of ectoparasites and fish mortality so that it can reduce the survival and condition factors of the Dumbo catfish (Clarias sp).
