The Effect of Differences in Substrate on the Growth of Freshwater Mussels (Pilsbryoconcha expressa) as Teaching Materials of Animal Physiology in Pocket Book Form. Thesis, Department of Biology Education, FKIP Jambi University, Supervisor (1) Dr. Afreni Hamidah S. Pt, M.Sc., (2) Dr. Drs. Jodion Siburian M.Sc Keywords: Pocket book, freshwater clam (Pilsbryoconcha expressa), teaching materials, animal physiology. The freshwater clam P.expressa is a mollusk of the bivilvia type or the type that has two shell valves, which has quite good potential from its shell and meat as souvenirs and culinary products that have quite high nutritional value. This study aims to determine the habitat and places to find food for the growth of freshwater mussels P.expressa. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 6 repetitions. The substrate used was sandy mud, mud, sand and no substrate. This research was conducted at the Biology Education Laboratory, University of Jambi, starting with the preparation of tools and materials to calculating data in January-July 2021. Observations were made for 2 months and 8 measurements. The parameters observed in this study were the increase in weight, length and width of the freshwater mussels. The results showed that the use of substrate had no significant effect on the growth of freshwater mussels. During 2 months of rearing, the highest absolute growth average in the weight category was in the sand substrate of 0.62 g, in the long category the highest value was in the sandy mud substrate of 0.0117 cm, and in the width category the highest value was on the mud substrate of 0.01 cm, and the average relative growth for the highest in the weight category was on the sand substrate of 0.0259 grams, the highest value in the length category was on the sandy mud substrate of 0.0014 cm, and the highest value in the width category was on a 0.0025 cm mud substrate. and the highest daily growth average for the weight category was in the sand substrate 0.010333 g, the long category the highest value was in the sandy mud substrate 0.0002 cm, and the highest value in the width category was in the mud substrate 0.000167 cm. Even though there were differences in the results, the results of the ANOVA analysis of variance did not show a significant effect. It can be concluded that any type of substrate can support the growth of mussels so that it can be used as a reference for P. expressa cultivation in the future.
