Abstract
Sari, S. K., 2023. Strategies used in Translating English Idioms Into Indonesian in the Novel "The Midnight Library": Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Department the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University, supervised by (I) Dr.Yanto. S.Pd., M.Ed. and (II) Robi Soma, S.Pd, M.Pd. Key words: Analysis, Idiom, Translation Strategy This research aim to identify what strategies that were used by the translator in translating English idioms into Indonesian. The sources of the data for this research are Matt Haig's book entitled The Midnight Library and its Indonesian version Perpustakaan Tengah Malam by Dharmawati. The researcher carried out this research by using the descriptive qualitative method. The strategy used to analyze the idioms is using Mona Baker's theory. 388 idioms found in the novel The Midnight Library. From the data analysis it is concluded that (1) 6.2% used strategy an idiom of similar meaning and form, (2) 8.2% used strategy an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form, (3) 85.3% used strategy translation by paraphrase and (4) 0.3% used the translation by omission. So the most strategy used by the translator is paraphrasing, while the least used strategy is omission. It is hoped that this research can help the translator in translating idioms, particularly from English into Indonesian.
