Abstract

Background: Work accident is an unwanted and difficult to predict event that can cause loss both morally and materially. PT. Vipul Jaya Lestari is a company engaged in the areca nut industry (Areca catechu L), which is one of the largest areca nut industry companies in Jambi Province. Work accidents that often occur to workers are slipping in the areca baking area during the drying process, falling while transporting areca nut and being crushed by a areca transporter, causing injuries and bruises to workers. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with work accidents among workers at PT Vipul Jaya Lestari. Methods: This research is a quantitative study with a cross sectional approach. The research population is workers at PT Vipul Jaya Lestari with a total sample of 79 people. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square statistical test. Results: The results showed that the proportion of work accidents among workers at PT Vipul Jaya Lestari was 40.5%. Variables that show a relationship include years of service (p-value 0.019), safe behavior (p-value 0.034), use of PPE (p- value 0.000), and noise (p-value 0.027), with work accidents with a p-value < 0.05 while age (p-value 0.423), OSH training (p-value 0.216), work floor (p-value 0.461), and lighting (p-value 1) with p-value > 0.05 are not related to accidents work for workers at PT Vipul Jaya Lestari. Conclusion: There is a relationship between length of work, safe behavior, use of PPE, and noise with work accidents, while age, OSH training, work floors, and lighting are not related to work accidents. It is also hoped that PT Vipul Jaya Lestari will conduct a review of work accidents at the work site and provide information to workers regarding the implementation of K3.
