ABSTRACT Ismalinda, Siti 2023. An Analysis of English Teachers’ Questions Types and Questioning Strategies during Interaction in the Classroom at SMKN 1 Batanghari. S2 Thesis. Master of English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2022/2023. The first supervisor is Dr. Fortunasari, S.S., M.A. and the second supervisor is Dr. Ella Masita, S.Pd., M.Pd., M.Sc Keywords: Types of Questions, Questioning Strategies The objectives of this research are to investigate teachers’ question types and teachers’ strategies to facilitate students’ understanding of English material. The research employed a qualitative method. This research focuses on two research questions; what types of questions do English teachers use to facilitate students’ understanding of English material and what are teachers’ strategies in asking questions to facilitate students' understanding of English material. To obtain the data in this research, observation by video recording and a semi-structured interview were employed. The interview were conducted with two English teachers by face to face. The data were analyzed by using Anderson and Krathwohl (2001) to find teachers’ questions types and Goodwin et al (1983) to find questioning strategies. The results of this study, the participants used more remembering questions and understanding questions before starting the lessons and in the middle of the teaching. The strategies used by participants as follows : 1) giving waiting time, 2) rewarding with reinforcement, 3) probe, 4) adjust or refocus, 5) redirect and 6) rephrasing.
