Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the problems faced by EFL teachers of Islamic Senior High Schools in teaching listening skills and the strategies used to solve the problems. This research utilized a qualitative case study design with a semi-structured interview as the data collecting technique. The participants of this research were two EFL teachers in MAN 2 Muaro Jambi. The findings revealed some problems in teaching listening, and the problems include: (1) Students' low response, (2) Lack of vocabulary, (3) Difference accents, and (4) Less motivated. Finally, to solve the problems, the teachers applied some strategies. The strategies include (1) Cognitive strategy, (2) Fill in blank strategy, (3) Giving motivation, and (4) Giving easy topics. Therefore, those strategies are expected to solve teacher problems in teaching listening skills. keywords: Teacher, Problems, Strategies, Teaching Listening
