Abstract

Keywords: Assessment, Teacher, Senior High School The study is aimed to analyze English language assessment by EFL Teachers in measuring students knowledge, skills, and character at the Senior High Schools level in Jambi City. The findings showed that EFL teachers had conducted the authentic assessment in practice of English language assessment to assess several aspects such as character measurement (affective assessment), knowledge measurement (cognitive assessment), and skills measurement (psychomotor assessment). Aunthentic assessment is process of assessing student competencies based on real condition of students.in learning activity. It was done by conducting self-observation, discussion, counseling with the student, written test, oral test, project assessment, and performance assessment. Several problems in conducting the English language assessment were also found in this study, such as difficulties in correcting essay questions, measurement of different student scores, student cheating, diversity of student competencies, short learning hours, and low interest of students in English learning. Therefore, EFL teachers offered some solutions to overcome the problems. The solutions consisted of:teachers’ discussing and counselling with students related to students’ obstacles in English learning, re-confirming the students’ interpretation in answering the essay questions, remedial for students who do not get the score of minimum requirements criteria, using an English dictionary to improve students competencies, discussing or counseling in motivating and supporting students in learning English, creating conducive and comfortable classrooms by playing music, re-explaining learning material, creating short summaries of learning material, using the Quiziz application as a tool of learning and re-arranging point scores of student answers
