Abstract

ABSTRAK Ultisol sebagai salah satu lahan kering marjinal berpotensi untuk dikembangkan sebagai daerah pertanian, namun ultisol memiliki beberapa kendala berupa sifat fisik tanah yang kurang baik diantaranya adalah kandungan liat yang tinggi, daya pegang air rendah, permeabilitas yang lambat, serta bahan organik yang rendah. Kondisi ini menyebabkan tanah mudah hancur dan terjadi pemadatan tanah akibat tersumbatnya pori-pori tanah. Salah satu upaya untuk memperbaiki sifat fisik tanah yang kurang baik itu adalah dengan penambahan bahan organik, yaitu kompos. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian kompos campuran kotoran ayam dan ara sungsang terhadap kepadatan tanah dan hasil kedelai pada ultisol. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Teaching and Research Farm Fakultas Pertanian Universitas jambi dan dilakukan selama 4 bulan. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan 5 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan yaitu k0 (tanpa pemberian perlakuan), k1 (5 ton/ha kompos), k2 (10 ton/ha kompos), k3 (15 ton/ha kompos), dan k4 (20 ton/ha kompos). Variabel yang diamati adalah bahan organik, bobot volume, total ruang pori, kadar air, tinggi tanaman, dan hasil tanaman. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis menggunakan sidik ragam dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan Multiple Range Test pada taraf α=5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian kompos campuran kotoran ayam dan ara sungsang dapat menurunkan kepadatan tanah yang ditandai dengan menurunnya nilai bobot volume tanah dari 1,46 g/cm3 menjadi 1,21 g/cm3 dan menurunnya nilai ketahanan penetrasi tanah. Penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa pada perlakuan k4 (20 ton/ha kompos) sudah dapat meningkatkan hasil produksi rata-rata kedelai pada varietas anjasmoro yaitu sebesar 2,10 ton/ha. Abstract Ultisols as one of the marginal dry lands has the potential to be developed as an agricultural area, but ultisols have several obstacles in the form of unfavorable soil physical properties including high clay content, low water holding capacity, slow permeability, and low organic matter. This condition causes the soil to break down easily and soil compaction occurs due to blockage of the soil pores. One effort to improve the physical properties of soil that is not good is by adding organic matter, namely compost. This study aims to determine the effect of composting a mixture of chicken manure and chinese violet on soil density and soybean yield in ultisols. This research was carried out at the Teaching and Research Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Jambi University and was carried out for 4 months. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with 5 treatments and 5 replications, consisting of k0 (no treatment), k1 (5 tons/ha of compost), k2 (10 tons/ha of compost), k3 (15 tons/ha of compost), and k4 (20 tons/ha of compost). The variables observed were organic soil matter, bulk density, porosity, moisture content, plant height and plant yield. The research data were analyzed using variance followed by the Duncan Multiple Range Test at the level of α = 5%. The results showed that the application of compost mixed with chicken manure and chinese violet could reduce soil density as indicated by a decrease in the bulk density of the soil from 1.46 g/cm3 to 1.21 g/cm3 and a decrease in the value of soil penetration resistance. The study also showed that the k4 treatment (20 tons/ha of compost) increased the average yield of soybeans in the Anjasmoro variety, which was 2,10 tons/ha.
