Abstract

This study aims to find out the teachers’ perception toward Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in teaching reading comprehension and to know the importance of this problem-based learning (PBL) in teaching reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 24 Kota Jambi. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive analysis method. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method to describe the analyze teachers’ perception of problem-based learning (PBL) in teaching reading comprehension descriptive text at SMP Negeri 24 Kota Jambi by using interview sessions. This research took in SMP Negeri 24 Kota Jambi located on Jl. Pendidikan no 66 , Kenali Asam Bawah, Kec. Kota Baru, Kota Jambi, Jambi 36129. The subjects of the research are two of 8th-grade English teachers from SMP Negeri 24 Kota Jambi. The data collection technique used in this research is the interview section. The results in this study are the teacher’s responses in the interview section, There are 4 main aspects that are presented in the interview section there are importance, ways or steps, difficulty, and student’s responses. In line with that, Problem-Based Learning is important and good in teaching reading comprehension descriptive text. The conclusion that the researcher gets in this study is that the teacher should choose appropriate methods in the learning process. Teachers are role models for students and are expected to be good teachers to facilitate the learning process. So, the students can be more creative, more interesting, and able to create a comfortable situation in the classroom.
