Abstract
The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of story mapping on reading comprehension of narrative texts for students of class VIII SMPN 12 Kota Sungai Penuh and to determine does the story mapping strategy have a significant influence on the reading comprehension of grade VIII students at SMPN 12 Kota Sungai Penuh. The method used in this research is quasi experimental. The instruments are tests and interviews. After researching the use of story mapping techniques in improving reading comprehension among students, the researcher draw the conclusions as follows:The implementation of the story mapping technique to the VIII grade students at SMPN 12 Kota Sungai Penuh in teaching narrative text generates meaningful progress in improving students' reading comprehension of narrative text. In short, Ho was refused and Ha was accepted. It was proved by the students' answers on the questionnaires of the research that most students are interested in learning narrative text by using the story mapping technique, and most of them strongly agreed that the story mapping technique could be applied to improve reading comprehension of narrative text to the students. The researcher recommended english teachers use the story mapping technique as a technique for their teaching, because this technique is really easy to be used and understood by the students.
