Dalam proses pembelajaran matematika siswa harus berpikir tingkat tinggi yaitu berpikir kritis agar mampu memahami konsep-konsep matematika yang dipelajari serta mampu menggunakan konsep-konsep tersebut ketika siswa harus mencari jawaban berbagai permasalahan soal matematika. Proses berpikir siswa dapat dikaitkan dengan konsep yang tersimpan dalam ingatan siswa sebelumnya. Soal matematika yang dihadapi siswa seringkali tidaklah dengan segera dapat dicari solusinya sedangkan siswa diharapkan dan dituntut untuk dapat menyelesaikan soal tersebut. Hal ini juga disebabkan karena adanya perbedaan gaya kognitif pada masing-masing siswa. Maka dari itu perlu dianalisis tentang kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa berdasarkan teori pemrosesan informasi yang ditunjau dari gaya kognitif siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses berpikir kritis matematis berdasarkan teori pemrosesan informasi ditinjau dari gaya kognitif siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP N 5 Kota Jambi. Pada penelitian ini siswa diberikan soal tes GEFT, untuk mendapatkan subjek gaya kognitif siswa field dependent dan subjek gaya kognitif siswa field independent. Siswa yang terpilih menjadi subjek penelitian diberikan soal maupun berpikir kritis sistem persamaan linear dua variabel serta dilakukan wawancara. Data diperoleh dianalis dengan kriteria indikator berpikir kritis FRISCO (focus, reason, inference, situation, clarity, overview) dan teori pemrosesan informasi (sensory register, short term memory, long term memory). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan siswa bergaya kognitif field dependent hanya memenuhi beberapa indikator kriteria berpikir kritis dan belum melakukan pemrosesan informasi yaitu long term memory. Siswa bergaya kognitif field independence sudah memenuhi indikator kriteria berpikir kritis dan melakukan semua tahapan pemrosesan informasi mulai dari sensory register, short term memory hingga long term memory. In the process of learning mathematics students must think at a higher level, namely critical thinking in order to be able to understand the mathematical concepts being studied and to be able to use these concepts when students have to find answers to various problems in mathematics. Students' thinking processes can be associated with concepts stored in students' memories before. The math problems faced by students are often not immediately solved, while students are expected and demanded to be able to solve these problems. This is also due to differences in cognitive style in each student. Therefore it is necessary to analyze students' critical thinking skills based on information processing theory which is reviewed from students' cognitive styles. This study aims to determine the process of mathematical critical thinking based on information processing theory in terms of students' cognitive style. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data source for this research was class VIII students of SMP N 5 Jambi City. In this study, students were given GEFT test questions, to obtain field dependent students' cognitive style subjects and field independent students' cognitive style subjects. Students who were selected as research subjects were given questions and critical thinking on a system of two-variable linear equations and conducted interviews. The data obtained was analyzed using FRISCO's critical thinking indicator criteria (focus, reason, inference, situation, clarity, overview) and information processing theory (sensory register, short term memory, long term memory). The results showed that field dependent cognitive style students only met several indicators of critical thinking criteria and had not done information processing, namely long term memory. Field independence cognitive style students have met the indicators of critical thinking criteria and carried out all stages of information processing starting from sensory registers, short term memory to long term memory.
