Abstract
Background: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a musculoskeletal disorder that poses a risk to heavy equipment operators. Operators are at risk because they have the control to operate heavy equipment by hand by utilizing the levers in the wheelhouse. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between individual factors and work factors with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) complaints in heavy equipment operators for container transportation PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Jambi. Method: This study uses a type of quantitative research design cross sectional. The research population and sample is all heavy equipment operators PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Jambi totaled 44 people. The sampling technique uses total sampling. Data collection using the BCTQ questionnaire. The analytical test used is the chi-square test (95%CI). Result: The results showed that 26 respondents (59.1%) had CTS complaints. Based on the bivariate test, it was found that age (p=0.010) PR=2,308, years of service (p=0.008) PR=2,262, and length of work (p<0.001) PR=4,180 had a relationship with CTS complaints in heavy equipment operators. Variables that were not related were nutritional status (p=0.183) PR=1,575 and medical history (p=0.270) PR=1,433. Conclusion: There is a relationship between age, years of service, and length of work with CTS complaints from heavy equipment operators for container transportation PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Jambi. It is expected that companies will make efforts to control CTS, one of which is with an ergonomic approach for workers.
